Machine Attacks by Reason Expert
Hard hitting drums are a staple in modern electronic music and finding the right sounds can take your productions to a whole new level. When it comes to drums it's important that you find the right sounds that work for you, but with so much to choose from; how do you decide what to spend your money on?
Today we're going to take a quick look at ModeAudio's Machine Attacks refill for Reason. This collection of top quality drum kits is sure to spark inspiration no matter what genre you produce.
Machine Attacks is one of the better drum libraries I've come across recently. It's packed to the brim with solid drum hits and a wide selection of percussion. The included Kong kits are programmed with common sense and playability in mind (assuming you have a 4×4 pad controller) and as a bonus the sounds are also programmed into NN-XT and ReDrum. As there's further sample manipulation going on behind the scenes in the Kong and NN-XT Presets you also get three different flavours of each drum kit. It's nice to see that the sounds haven't just been dumped into each sampler, there's obviously a lot of care gone into the creation of these patches.
The fact that this isn't just another analog drum library is a bonus too; I've already had my fill of the same old 808 and 909 hits and I think it's time for something different. Don't get me wrong I love the sound of the old Roland machines as much as the next guy, but sometimes you just need some no-nonsense, high quality, original drums. And besides, there are already so many good 808 and 909 libraries out there.
All in all, you get a brilliant set of drums for a reasonable price, and as an extra bonus there's also five combinator effect patches thrown in. If you're looking for some fresh drum hits then don't let this one pass you by.
