Raw Material by Medway Studios
If you're looking for some unique samples to layer up with your existing library to breathe new life into it then ModeAudio's Raw Material should fit the bill perfectly.
Created from typical household appliances, utensils, and other items these samples are anything but ordinary.
You get a total of 322 samples that span nine different categories. That's not all that's included, however.
There are an additional 19 ready to go kits and four general purpose processing presets to help further enhance the sounds.
The Sounds
While the general theme is everyday objects put to use in an audio context, this pack consists of the follow subsets of sample types:
- Kitchen Appliances
- Kitchen Utensils
- Metal Percussion
- Mixed Percussion
- Plastic Percussion
- Water Percussion
- Wood Percussion
- Ceramic Percussion
- Food Percussion
As you can see, the main aim here is a nice variety of exotic' percussion samples rather than your typical kick, snare, and hi-hat sample collection.
Starting with both the Kitchen inspired folders, you'll find everything from gas hob clicks and breaths to knife scrapes.
Although the sample name titles might look fairly utilitarian upon first glance, there is an abundance of creativity here in wringing out useful material from everyday items you'd never think of sounding so interesting.
The ceramic, wood, plastic, and metal percussion folders have some excellent clank type sounds that conjured up the classic Pole' sample from the M1 but with much more variety to choose from.
The food section has some really useful coffee and fryer samples where a more push-pull percussion slide' is needed.
Although I said these aren't your typical kick, snare, or hi-hat samples, the mixed percussion folder just so happens to have some on offer.
They are of course approximations of these types of sounds, and while not recorded from an actual drum kit or drum machine, they serve their intended purpose well, just with extra character.
And although the water folder has a few sounds you might expect from a category of this type, there are some surprises in there too.
Wrapping Up
These sounds would be perfect for anything from a modern hip-hop track to house and beyond. Even sound effect and game designers will find a lot of use in this collection.
Helpfully, ModeAudio has included demo sequences for each of the main kits to give you an idea of what's possible with this sound-set.
Another winner from ModeAudio!
