There are some pieces of equipment that transcend the status of mere instrument, becoming so influential as to become icons of the very music they're used to create - in the realm of electronic music, there is no piece of gear more legendary than the 808 drum machine, the sole focus of our latest explosion of authentic analog inspiration, Tape 808 - Transistor Drum Samples!

For this pack, we sourced an original 1980s 808 drum machine and sampled it extensively in all its glory - we wanted to take things up a few notches however, so we layered up the analog goodness by running the hardware drum samples through not only our Yamaha 4 track cassette recorder, but also our coveted Akai reel-to-reel tape machine.

Classic 808 boom and snap married with the warm, crunchy vibes of analog tape - simply a match made in heaven!

The results form the backbone of this celebration of vintage circuitry, 261 royalty-free drum samples divided into folders of clean, pristine drums, sampled directly from the original drum unit, plus a set of cassette tape processed drums, driven hot through an analog mixer and finally a reel-to-reel tape processed folder.

Virtually all 17 of the 808's original drum sounds have become classics in their own right, sampled here for your instant use - from the unmistakable, deeply resonant kick, snappy snare and plopping toms and congas, to the crisp hand claps, sizzling maracas, crash cymbal and hi hats, through to the rim shot and completely bonkers yet instantly recognisable cowbell.

We didn't stop there though - we wanted to showcase the samples in their natural habitat, creating 200 drum loops spanning a range of genres for inclusion, sequenced both in the box as well as on the original 808 itself.

From Hip Hop to House, Techno and even half-time Trap, the 808's purely synthesised sounds are a perfect fit for any electronic genre you care to try them in, and paired with the drum kit sampler patches and 35 MIDI loops we've also included in the pack, make for a complete 80s rhythmic toolkit.
